Weather here in Rome has been spiritually uplifting. (perhaps it is the proximity to the Papa)
I was concerned if coming back to Italy for the third consecutive year would activate my innate jejune nature. However, stepping into the glorious perfumed spring air, the casual pedestrian pace, and the designer colors of ancient buildings, immediately slapped me into vacation spirit. Does anyone ever tire of Amore?
The pasta (Vongole and Carbonara) we devoured last night at our neighborhood Trattoria was declared the best ever.
Also sipped a cappuccino yesterday afternoon that we are now using as the gold standard against which to compare all others. The Cafe where we were perched for a couple of hours was the people-watching capitol of the Mondo.
Romans have an inborn dignity that is displayed in the finery of their clothing – it also helps maintain the national GDP. Even the street sweepers were smartly outfitted in the colors of next season!
Saw some riot police on maneuvers—actually I think they were just showing off their uniforms and tech gear because they didn’t seem to be serious about anything else. Marching semi-smartly, they advanced with alot of gusto and then, 10 minutes later, were in full retreat.
No opera is on in Rome right now, so we’re waiting till Verona where we’ll see the Pearl Fishers (Bizet). Listening to a duet from it on YouTube as I type…
